The true beauty of every Anglepoise lamp lies in its ability
to adapt perfectly to every situation. All Anglepoise lamps are based on the
original 1930's desk lamp by George Carwardine. The original 1227 desk lamp has
recently been recognised as one of ten British Design Classics alongside the likes
of the Mini and Concorde and was honoured by the Royal Mail with its own stamp.
Coinciding with the design's 75th birthday, this celebration
of Anglepoise desk lamps reflects the impact that the original three-spring
design had on an unsuspecting public. With the introduction of the 1227 lamp
came the ability to manipulate the light from bedside lamps and desk lamps to
suit every task in the home and office alike, so that reading, writing and
close work became much easier.
Since then, Anglepoise has been responsible for many iconic
desk light designs including the Type75 model, another design classic. Reworked
by our Design Director Kenneth Grange this desk lamp is now as universally
recognisable as the first of our desk lamps, the 1227. Available as a Giant
floor light or a simple desk light this modern take on a design classic is as
stylish as it is practical.
There have of course been many attempts at recreating both
of these desk lamps in the
Anglepoise range of Desk lamp includes styles which incorporate a desk light and is useful for the customers like architects, medical professionals, Traditional Floor Lamps, Table lamps, interior designers and graphic designers.
